From 1st March 2026, the standard excess amounts for cars and vans will be increasing. This update applies to all bookings made from that date onwards.
From 1st January 2026, the price to reduce your excess protection will be increasing across all payment options. This includes Annual, monthly and per-trip excess reduction. Please note that the reduced excess amount itself is not changing and will remain at £250 per incident. Only the cost of adding excess reduction is increasing.
We review our pricing and coverage regularly to ensure it stays aligned with market conditions, operational costs, and customer needs. The updated excess amounts and protection costs reflect this review.
The new excess amounts apply to bookings starting on or after 1 March 2026.
The new Excess Protection pricing applies from your next renewal date if you already have monthly or annual Excess Protection.
Bookings made before 1st March 2026 will follow the previous excess and pricing, even if the trip starts on or after 1st January 2026. If you selected per-trip excess protection at the time of booking, £2 per hour will be honoured for the booking. Only bookings made on or after 1st March 2026 will use the updated excess amounts and per-trip excess protection pricing.
No action is required. Your existing monthly or annual Excess Protection will continue as normal and move to the new pricing when it renews.

If you are aged 22 and over, you can reduce your excess to £250 per incident in three ways:
Per trip – added when you make a booking.
Monthly – paid monthly and automatically renews. (30 day minimum term)
All three options will have updated pricing from 1 March 2025 (or from your renewal date if you’re already on a monthly or annual plan). You can compare the new pricing here: View Excess Protection Pricing
If you buy a monthly or annual Excess Protection plan in February, you’ll pay the current (lower) price. Your plan will only update to the new pricing at your next renewal.
Per-trip Excess Protection bought in February follows the current pricing until the booking begins. Any bookings starting on or after 1 March will use the updated pricing.
If you currently pay for Excess Protection either monthly or annually and would like to switch to a different payment option (for example,. from monthly to annual) you can request this change by completing this form.
